Little Birdie Birthday Wishes (Mojo214)

I made this birthday card for my friend and Stampin' Up Demo, Chris Galbraith.  If you live in the Memphis area and want to get started with stamping, I couldn't recommend a better person to meet.   I really like making cards for her because 1) I know the card will go to someone that truly understands and appreciates what went into it and 2) I challenge myself to use only SU product, and when possible, use current SU product.

I used the Mojo Monday 214 sketch for this card with some adaptation.

Supplies: all Stampin' Up
Cardstock: Old Olive, Marina Mist, Tangerine Tango
Designer Series Paper: Paisley Petals
Stamps: Four Frames, Occasional Quotes (hostess set)
Ink/Coloring: Old Olive, Tangerine Tango, Early Esperess (marker), Marina Mist (marker), blender marker
Tools: Decorative Label punch,  Scallop Trim Border punch, Corner Rounder (Crop-A-Dile by We R memory Keepers)
Accents: Antique Brads, Very Vanilla seam binding,

Penguin Nutcracker (Guest Designer)

This card was designed and made by my lovely little elf, my daughter Angeline.  Angeline is seven and loves to craft.  She loves stamping and coloring.  She's even woken me up on the weekends asking me to stamp a few images for her 'cause she wants to color them.

Angeline made this card for her teacher.   She had stamped, colored and cut out the nutcracker a few weeks back.  She wanted to use the nutcracker in her card.  She also liked these penguins,  I had made a card during a card class hosted by my Stampin' Up demo Chris Galbraith.   So we married the two ideas and here's the result.

And here's a picture of Angeline with the card as it's hanging in her teacher's classroom.

Supplies:
Stamps: Recollections (Nutcracker), Stampin Up (Serene Snowflakes)
Ink: Stampin' Up (Basic Black Classic Ink and White Craft Ink)
Coloring: Zig markers
Paper: Stampin' Up Cardstock (Whisper White, Marina Mist, Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie)
Tools: Stampin' Up (Owl punch)
Misc: White Embossing Powder

Technique Highlight:
The Penguins were made using the Stampin' Up Owl punch.  The ears and the feed of the owl were trimmed off.

I changed job's this year and my new boss is a golfer.  The idea of these ornaments stared out as a joke idea, but then.... what the heck.  He can think of us year over year as he puts golf balls into a tree.   After all, I understand that golfers often put golf balls into trees.  Right?

We Love Santa Banner

I made this banner using Make the Cut (MTC) software.  It's a great tool that makes designing cutting files easy.  What used to take me hours to do in Inkscape, I can now do in minutes with MTC.

I made this banner last year and was looking forward to hanging it on the fireplace again this year.

Supplies:
Paper: My Minds Eye
Fonts: Duvall (for the words), KR Heartalicious (for the heart image)
Accessories: Ribbon

Christmas Tag Card - Take 3

Here's another variation of the tag card I posted earlier.  Hope you're not bored by these.   I did have to pick some cards that I could make fairly easily and make multiples without getting bored.   We sent out over 90 Christmas cards this year....   Making the cards in batches and repeating a design I like is the key to be able to get 90+ hand made cards done.  Last year I made multiples of the same card and waited until late in the year to make the cards.   Lesson learned.   This year's card making endeavors were a lot more fun since I worked on a larger variety of cards.  Plus, I worked on some of these earlier during the year.

So the design does vary some from the previous versions.  I used different papers, a different border punch, and different stamps on the background paper.   I grabbed snow flakes from two different Basic Grey acrylic stamp sets.   The greeting is from a Hero Arts background stamp that I cut apart and am using the greetings individually.

I almost forgot to mention the most interesting technique on this card.   It's that little bit of shimmer behind the cut out on the tag.   I cut the tag with my Wishblade using a free ttf dingbat font.  I then ran a scrap of cardstock through the Xyron and adhered it, with the adhesive side up onto the card.   Coat the exposed adhesive with glitter and voila.

Supplies:

Ink: Stampin' Up, Colorbox Liquid Chalk

Paper: Basic Grey, Misc cardstock

Tools: WishBlade, Hole punch, Martha Stewart Border Punch, EK Success (label punch), Stampin' Up (large circle)

Accessories: Glitter, Ribbon
Misc.: Xyron

Merry Santa Wishes

The Santa Stamp is one I picked up, oh gosh.... 12+ years ago.  I just grabbed the stamp and it has a copyright date of 1997.  It's amazing how well these rubber stamps hold up.  I remember stamping this image years ago as I was playing with a set of markers I picked up.  I can't even recall the brand.

Supplies:
Stamp: Rubber Stampede (Santa in Circle), Stampin' Up (Lots of Thoughts)
Ink: Stampin Up, Misc markers to color the Santa stamp.
Paper: K&Company, Misc. cardstock
Tools: Creative Memories (Circle Punch), EK Success (scallop circle punch), Stampin' Up (scallop circle punch)
Accessories: Ribbon

Basic Grey Holiday Tag Card - Take 2

More Tag Cards.  I really enjoyed the tag cuts and it made for a simple and flexible card design that still had a lot of oomph.  The tags were cut from Basic Grey paper with my WishBlade.   I took a scrap of paper and ran it through the Xyron and placed it behind the cut out area, then applied glitter.   I used Basic Grey stamps on the brown background and some Basic Grey printed paper for the band in the middle.

The greeting is cut from a Hero Arts background stamp that is a medley of greetings. I cut all of those greetings apart and am using them individually.

Supplies:
Stamps: Hero Arts (Background stamp cut into individual greetings), Baskic Grey acrylic stamps
Ink: Colorbox Liquid Chalk
Paper: Basic Grey, Misc cardstock
Tools: WishBlade, Hole punch, EK Success Border Punch
Accessories: Glitter, Ribbon

Pink Snowstorm

How about a little pink for Christmas?   It all started when I was playing with my new KNK Zing electronic cutter using Make the Cut (MTC) software.   The snowflake is one of the stock images in MTC.  I just added a shadow, and sent it to my new cutter.  Wow.  The cutter just rocked! This was thick shimmer paper by Core'dinations and the machine took it on without any issues.   The snowflake was the motivation for the rest of the card.

Supplies:
Paper: K&Company (printed paper), Core'dinations (White, red, and pink shimmer paper)
Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink
Toos: KNK Zing (snowflake), Sizzix (snowflake embossing die and "joy" die)
Accessories: Ribbon, Button

Mischief Critter Christmas

I got bamboozed by my kids to buy this Close to My Heart stamp set.  It has a gang of little critters in winter wear that was just too adorable to resist.   After both Spencer and Angeline let out coos of cuteness for these little images, they were in my shopping cart.   *sigh*   Those to kids get me every time.   I'm just a sucker for them.

After the stamps arrived, I doodled a bit coloring two of the images and then later turned them into cards.   The one in the blue sweatshirt is colored with Copic markers and the one in the purple sweatshirt is colored using Stampin' Up markers and an aqua painter using a dry brush technique that my friend Joanie featured on her blog and uses a lot.

The card bases are embossed using a Spellbinders embossing stencil, but it's hard to tell with the photos.  I'm going to have to practice taking better pictures to capture the details better.

Supplies:
Stamps: Close to My Heart (critter), Stampin' Up (Greeting)
Ink: Memento (Tuxedo Black), Stampin Up (Real Red)
Coloring: Copic markers, Stampin Up markers
Paper: Basic Grey, Stampin Up Cardstock
Tools:  Stampin Up punches (Decorative Label, Scalloped Circle, & Circle), EK Success punches (Scalloped Circle), Spellbinders embossing plates/stencils
Accessories: Misc. Ribbon

Merry Wishes from Santa and his Friends

Ho! Ho! Ho! from Santa and his friends.   I stamped these little guys and colored them last year after picking up some acrylic stamps in the dollar section.  They were so cute, I hung onto these little punched medallions.  This year, they made it onto cards.

Suppliers:
Stamps: Acrylic Stamps from dollar section, Stampin Up (greeting)
Ink/Coloring: Stampin Up Classic Ink, Stampin Up markers, Stampin Up Watercolor Wonder Crayons with an aqua pen
Paper: K&Company, Misc Carstock, Stampin' Up Kraft cardstock fro card base
Tools:  Stampin Up Scallop Punch, Creative Memories Circle punch, EK Success Scallop punch
Accessories: Ribbon, Puffy applique - need to look up the name.

Technique:
The Stampin Up and EK Success scallop punches I have work perfectly to shadow each other.   The white fluffy stuff on Santa's hat was done with this liquid applique that puffs up when you hit it with a heat gun.   When I get a chance to dig it out and look up the brand, I'll update the Supplies list above.

Happy Holly Tag Christmas Card

Supplies:
Stamps: Acrylic stamps, I believe they're Inkadinkadoo - for the greeting and the holly tone on tone green background
Paper: Basic Grey, Misc cardstock
Toos: Wishblade cutter, Martha Stewart border punch
Accessories: Misc Ribbon, glitter,
Misc: Dimensionals, Xyron adhesive

Technique:
Ages ago, I cut these tags using my blue Wishblade.  The image came from a free ttf font.   I love how intricate the tags came out.   To add glitter, I ran a small piece of cardstock through the Xyron and adhered it to the back of the cut out in the tag.  I then adhered glitter to the exposed Xyron adhesive.  It holds up great.   The red shadow layer is hand cut.

Little Christmas Angel Card

I purchased this Close to My Heart stamp set thinking of my daughter Angeline.   I couldn't help but think of her as I made this card.  It's cream and gold color scheme is simple but rich.  The little angel is colored with Copic markers.   I love the shading that I can do with those markers.

Here's a close up and angle shot to show off the dimension.

Supplies:
Stamps: Close to My Heart Angel Sent stamp set
Ink/Coloring: Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Copics for coloring
Paper: Misc cardstock, Gold mirrored board from the art department
Tools: Stampin Up Curly Label punch, Sizzix embossing folder
Accessories: Misc Ribbon, Stampin Up brad

Technique:
The ribbon isn't actually tied, but bundled and then captured by the brad.   The angel is punched with the SU Curly Label punch.  The gold shadow layer is merely another punch with the Curly Label punch and then turned 90 degrees.   Add a SU dimensional and position below the ribbon.

Rudolph Tag Card

We made this gorgeous paper pieced Rudolph tag during a class hosted by my Stampin Up Demo, Chris Galbraith, last year.  I never could part with this cute little tag last year but he sat and decorated my scrappin' space.   This year, Rudolph got promoted into a card.  Hopefully I can part with him this year.   LOL.

Here's an angled shot that shows some of dimension and more of the detail on Rudolph.  Isn't he cute?

Supplies:
Stamps: Stampin Up
Ink: Stampin Up
Paper: K&Company, Stampin Up cardstock

Inspired By Surroundings - T-Mobile Ad

Sometimes when I lack inspiration, I try and take a closer look at the things around me.   Well, for this card, think of the T-Mobile adds.  They use a lot of white and HOT pink.

The pink snowflakes were cut with my new electronic cutter, the KNK Zing.   I put in my pre-order back in July and the machine finally was released in November.  I got one off of the very first shipment and I just love this cutter.   It uses Make the Cut (MTC) software.  The software package is amazing and can be used with other cutters, but the Zing comes with a copy of MTC.

Supplies:
Paper:  White glitter paper, misc cardstock
Ink: Stampin Up Mellon Mambo
Stamps: Stampin Up Cute and Curly
Ribbon: Stampin Up
Tools: KNK Zing, Make the Cut software, Martha Stewart shape punch, Stampin Up Curly Label shape punch

Holly Jolly Nutcracker

It's the first of December and here's my first new Christmas card I created this year.  My son's favorite color is orange.   That prompted me to use orange for this card.   I tell ya, it was hard to find any matching Christmas designer paper.

Hubby's Santa Card

I love that Santa stamp so much to where I had to use it for my hubby's Christmas card.

Supplies:
Paper: Stampin Up Cardstock
Stamps:  Stampin Up Christmas Punch, Unknown Santa stamp (I unmounted it and don't recall the brand)
Ink/Coloring: Stampin Up Classic Ink, Stampin Up Watercolor Wonder Marker, Sakura Clear Star Gel Pen
Tools: EK Success Border Punch, Stampin Up Curly Label punch, Spellbinders dies
Accessories: Misc. Ribbon

Santa's White Christmas Card

This was last year's Christmas card.   Since I made dozens of these, it had to be a design that I really liked.  Thanks to my local Stampin Up Demonstrator, Chris Galbraith, I found the layout I wanted to use.  Hopefully she doesn't mind me posting her name and linking her blog.  She's a great gal.   I did turn that layout into a white and silver color scheme with this Santa stamp I picked up ages ago and he really needed to be put to some use.

I started running out of ribbon and brads.  After digging through my stash and a trip to Hobby Lobby, I found a few alternatives.   Here's a sampling.  They still turned out quite similar.

Supplies:
Paper: White cardstock, silver shimmer paper I picked up at Xpedex.
Stamp: Unknown - I unmounted it and regretfully didn't track the mfg.
Ink & Coloring: Stampin Up Black Classic Ink and Stampin Up Watercolor Wonder Crayons, Sakura Gelly Roll Clear Star sparkly gel pen
Tools: Cuttlebug embossing folder, aqua painter
Accessories: Misc ribbon, various brads

Technique:
I colored the stamped image using Stampin Up's Watercolor Crayons and an aqua painter.   After the imaged dried, I added a bit of sparkle to the berries and bell on Santa's hat.

Embossed White Christmas Medallion

Supplies:
Stamps: Stampin Up Medallion, Misc acrylic stamp for greeting
Ink: Stampin Up White Craft Ink
Paper: Basic Grey, Misc cardstock, Cranson Gold shimmer Paper
Tools: Stampin Up Punch
Accessories: White embossing poweder

Technique:
The card is pretty simple.  I used heat embossing for the stamped image and the greeting.  I stamped on a 6x6 piece of cardstock with Stampin Up White Craft ink, added white embossing powder and heat embossed.  I then cut the medallion in half, trimmed to size, and used the two pieces to create both cards.

Christmas Medallion on Black

Supplies:
Stamp: Stampin Up Medallion
Paper: Stampin Up cardstock and misc cardstock
Ink: Stamin Up White craft Ink
Tools: Fiskars border punch
Accessories: Bling/gems, Mrs. Grossman's design line stickers

Technique
I stamped the image onto black cardstock using Stampin Up's white craft ink.   After stamping, I dried the image using a heat gun.   The rest is layering and there are thin silver design line stickers bordering the black paper that may be hard to see.

Christmas Card Mania

Since the holidays are upon us and I've been making holiday cards like a maniac, I can't think of a better way to launch this blog than to share a card (or other creation) each day until I run out.   With any luck that will take me well into December.

I'm new to this blogging thing though and need to work out a few bugs.   To that end, I'll share some cards that I made in prior years.  I'll start sharing new projects December 1st.

These are some cards I made two years ago.

Supplies:
  • Paper: White Glitter, Creative Memories Cranberry red cardstock, Creative Memories printed vellum from page completion kit, white cardstock
  • Tools: EK Success Punch, Sizzix Dies, Cuttlebug Embossing Folder
  • Embellishment: Gold thread, glitter
  • Misc: Gold gel pen (to color the tips of the ornaments), pop dots, Xyron

Technique:
There's one technique worth mentioning here.   The NOEL placard on the front most card is made by applying Xyron adhesive to a piece of white cardstock.  I then applied the red NOEL.  Lastly I applied the glitter.  I had made this as a little test item months prior to making the cards to see how well it help up.   The glitter stayed put several months later and that little placard was the inspiration for the glitter ornaments used on that card and the others.
